The Amrock is a strong and dignified fowl. The Amrock is a dual-purpose fowl; the hen is a fairly good layer, producing an average of 220 eggs (230 in the high), and the young are fast-growing. The Amrock is calm but not slothful. The Amrock will not take over the feed tray.

Origin
Originally from the United States, it is descended from the Dominican, the Black Cochin, the Black Java (which has nothing to do with the Java, nor the Javanese in Europe), etc. It was recognized in the United States in 1874 under the name Barred Rock. Perfected in Germany, it was recognized in France in 1958. The dwarf form is of German creation.
